Hi all my Brides to be:

In my last blog post, I talked about one of our beautiful love bird cake toppers. This got me thinking, "How did the tradition of a cake topper come about?" I also, wondered why happy couples pick the cake topper they choose and what you lovely brides and brides to be have chosen for your cake topper. So, I did a little research on the history and hope that my brides to be can share what their picks are, if they had a hard time finding the right topper or if they had any choice beside the classic bride and groom (which was common in my mother's era)?

According to Wikipedia, the cake topper is "a small model that sits on the top of the wedding cake, normally a representation of the bride and groom in formal wedding attire." In addition, " the cake topper dominated weddings in the United States in the 1950's and symbolized togetherness."

Today's brides and grooms have a wide array of choices. Almost anything can act as a wedding cake topper. I was just at a bridal show this past weekend and had three brides that were looking for specific and unique toppers for their cakes. One bride wanted a caveman pulling a cavewoman by the hair. The other wanted an airplane themed cake topper to go with their airplane themed wedding. And a third wanted a parachuting bride and groom. If these brides to be are reading this, I have found the first two and am still on the look out for the third.

Humorous cake toppers are also very popular now. These allow wedding guests to share in the personalities of the bride and groom. So Sweet Weddings has a large selection of these on our site. Please keep in mind that most of our figures are mix and match so you can customize the pair. A few of our favorites are

"the love pinch" bridal couple figurine,

the "Almost Perfect Frog Prince Groom Figure" (paired here with our "surprised/exasperated bride figure")

and last but not least, one that reminds me of the era in which the cake topper dominated, 1950 also because I have a soft spot for the blue tuxedo (which got an undue bad rap). LOL!

The Funny Geek Groom Mix and Match Figure (paired here with our "cell phone bride")

I would love to hear from you as to what cake topper you chose to adorn your cake.

Till next time, "Cherish the moment...Love, Laughter, Happily ever After"
